Privacy and data

The short version: we keep what we need to run your account, we don't track you, and your data is yours to take or delete. The legal text is in the privacy policy and the terms. This page is the friendly version.

What we store

  • Your account: email, a password hash (never the password), username, and any profile details you choose to add, such as a display name, bio, location and avatar.
  • What you make: logs, batches, recipes, favorites, thumbs and the photos that go with them.
  • Sessions: so you stay signed in, we keep a record of each signed-in device, including its browser details and IP address.
  • Technical records: server logs (request paths and timings, no IP addresses) and abuse-prevention counters (keyed by IP or email address). Both are cleared on a schedule.

What we don't do

No analytics, no ad networks, no third-party scripts, no fingerprinting. The only cookies are the ones that keep you signed in, and you get none until you sign in.

We use a handful of services to run the site: Cloudflare for networking and photo storage, Postmark for sending email, and Contabo for the server. They are listed on the privacy policy.

Export your data

Settings has a data export. It gives you a file with your profile, logs, batches, recipes and favorites. You can do this twice a day, which is plenty.

Delete your account

You can delete your account yourself from Settings or at /account/delete. It is immediate:

  • Your logs, batches, recipes, favorites, thumbs, reports, sessions and photos are removed, and the averages on the nogs you logged are recalculated without you.
  • Nogs you submitted stay in the catalog, because they are shared knowledge rather than personal data. They are credited to NogLog afterwards.
  • We send one last email to confirm, and then nothing else.

Warning

Deleting your account cannot be undone. Export your data first if you want to keep a copy.

Backups can contain deleted data for a limited time before they roll off. The privacy policy says how long.
